Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Art Cart Facilitator engages patients [family members or hospital employees] in a variety of expressive art or creative activities including but not limited to painting drawing coloring knitting or crocheting molding or sculpting clay block printing and other craft-making in order to enhance physical emotional or spiritual healing. The Art Cart Facilitator prepares an art cart or tote with materials needed pushes the art cart or carries the tote to the patient bedside or nursing floor and engages one or more patients in an art activity appropriate to the needs of the patient(s) [this could also include family members or employees] as discussed with nursing staff on the floor. Candidate must be able to relate well with patients their family members hospital employees and members of the general public with compassion and understanding. Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding a patients health or medical condition in accordance with HIPAA [Health Information Portability and Privacy Act]. Collaborate with others in carrying out the mission of Art for Healing and work independently. Possess the qualities associated with critical thinking problem solving and patience. Physical abilities that may be needed include negotiating steps or ramps and walk considerable distances throughout the hospital. Standing for up to one hour at a time. Candidate should display skills in reading writing and speaking in English. Being able to gently challenge the patient or participant to explore their creative side and guiding individuals in the use of various art media that allows for the participants complete freedom of expression.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Prior art making experience working with pediatric patients. Combination of experience in Art Therapy or experience in a similar role.
