Advancing Equitable Opportunities for Hiring and Training
CommonSpirit Health is engaged in the Healthcare Anchor Network’s Impact Workforce Commitment, an initiative to hire and train individuals who may have faced employment barriers due to low income, lack of access to education and training, and other socioeconomic challenges. CommonSpirit is one of 17 original signatories to the commitment, part of a broader initiative to address economic and racial disparities that affect community health outcomes.
Our Talent Acquisition Workforce Development Team leads this effort for CommonSpirit, working collaboratively with internal teams and community partners. The overall goal is to increase the presence of underrepresented and underserved populations in health care professions in the communities we serve.
In FY23, CommonSpirit hired over 4,700 people from economically disadvantaged zip codes across Arizona, Arkansas, and Nebraska — the three states where we are launching this work. Together, we are making strides toward a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
Our Impact Workforce Commitment goals include:
1. Build Intentional Pathways Up and In: Increase the percentage of Impact hires, which are defined as: a hire who resides in an economically under-resourced area; and are hired into roles that require less than a bachelor's degree and provide a livable wage.
2. Achieve Employee Financial Stability:
○ Conduct a pay equity analysis to provide leaders with insight into the correlation between income and health.
○ Support eligible employees in accessing Earned Income Tax Credits.
○ Assessbenefitutilization to ensure all eligible employees take full advantage of available resources.
3. Reflect Our Communities: Invest in a pipeline for development of diverse leadership and educate supervisors on inclusive development and promotion practices.
