Job Summary / Purpose
Under the supervision and direction of a licensed healthcare practitioner, the EMT - Rural Health Clinic participates in delivery of patient care that promotes the well-being and safety of all patients and staff within the clinic setting. Outside of the clinic, the Rural Health Clinic EMT delivers care in emergency situations within their scope of practice when called upon in the communities they serve.
Essential Key Job Responsibilities
- Performs general patient care following established clinic workflows.
- Assists healthcare providers with exams, treatments, procedures, testing and specimen (blood, tissue, sputum, etc.) collection including phlebotomy as directed and ensures appropriate consent forms are obtained prior to the aforementioned acts.
- Demonstrates a professional attitude and approach with patients, families and all others while ensuring confidentiality of patient and organizational information.
- Functions within the scope of practice of an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) as defined within state regulations including driving the ambulance when needed. Follows the ambulance driving policies, standard operating guidelines (SOGs), and patient care protocols within the scope of practice when engaged in working on the ambulance.
- Provides patient care and performs patient care procedures, including wound cleansing and dressing, immobilization, and re-assessment of patient condition and status. Under medical direction, EMTs can administer medications within their scope of practice.
- Provides any and all BLS interventions including but not limited to automatic cardiac defibrillation.
- Maintains compliance with established departmental and organizational policies, procedures and objectives concerning quality improvement, safety, environmental conditions and infection control.
- Prepares and provides ordered medications to patients within their scope of practice.
- Responds to code blue or other emergencies in the clinic and on clinic campus, ensuring the ambulance service has been activated.
- Completes ambulance patient care reports in compliance with state and local guidelines for each patient encounter.

Qualifications
Required Education and Experience | - High school diploma or equivalent - State-approved EMT training program graduate |
Preferred Education and Experience | - EMS experience preferred. |
Required Licensure and Certifications | EMT:IA; LRAD:IA - within 24 months; BLS-CPR |
Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training | If working in a unit located in or traveling to Iowa, or a Behavioral Health/Psych unit: Mandatory Reporter Adult and Mandatory Reporter Child - within 6 months; tracked through Learning system Must be at least 18 years of age Clinical ability- ability to demonstrate competency in job related functions according to organizational standards. - Ability to navigate and operate the applicable computer programs. - Perform driving skills test and class annuallyand must maintain good driving record to be insurable within the guidelines listed in the standard operating guidelines (SOG). |
